Cow's milk can prevent future HIV
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - One of the best sources for calcium and vitamin D are milk cows. It is thought the scientists to use cow's milk to protect people from HIV.
The researchers found that cows can be used to produce antibodies against the virus in humans. This is because animals can not be infected with the disease.
The next step to be taken is to develop a creamy cow's milk that can be used by women to protect themselves from the HIV virus that may be transmitted by their partner.
A research team from Melbourne University to work with the Australian biotechnology company, Immuron Ltd, to develop cow's milk products.
Dr. Kramski Marti, who helped conduct the study, provide immunization against the cow was pregnant with HIV proteins and study the production of the first milk produced after a cow giving birth.
Production of the first milk called colostrum normally, naturally equipped with antibodies to protect the baby from infection cows. However, cow's milk that has been immunized is actually contained HIV antibodies.
"We were able to harvest specific antibodies from the surface of the HIV protein in milk," he said as quoted from dailymail Kramski.
Kramski said it had conducted experiments on these antibodies and found that these antibodies bind to and inhibit the HIV virus to infect and enter human cells.
Cow's milk is then developed into a cream known as microbicide, will be applied to the female genitals before and after intercourse, in order to protect women infected sexually.
"We hope that anti-HIV antibodies milk will be easy to use, can be protective of women from HIV, prevents the safe and effective for HIV infection through sexual intercourse," said Kramski.
Kramski antibody added that if the cream has proven successful in humans, it can protect and strengthen women in the fight against HIV.
